The frame of the Penn 975CS is constructed of lightweight, one piece forged machined aluminum. The spool is machined from solid bar stock aluminum, and both side plates are smooth, contoured forged, machined aluminum for superior rigidity. In order to prevent corrosion for saltwater fishing, Penn has coated the frame, spool, and side plates with their trademark gleaming gold anodized finish.
The guts of this reel are just as impressive and durable as the outside. There is a machined, stainless steel main gear as well as pinion gear, which allow this reel to have incredible strength and super fast gear ratio. There are two aircraft sealed stainless steel ball bearing , plus a roller bearing equipped with “infinite anti-reverse” which together give this reel incredible smoothness as well as providing solid hook sets and no handle slop.
