The Daiwa Saltiga SA50 Conventional Reel was designed to withstand today’s super strong braided line, as well as still being able to handle monofilament with ease. If you enjoy saltwater fishing with braided line, you understand that the positive aspects of it, being extremely strong and thin, but you also know the strain it puts on a normal reel’s components.
In order to design a reel which is able to perform to its greatest potential when using braided line, you need to start with the exterior. Daiwa certainly took this into deliberation when they beefed up the exterior design to withstand pretty much anything. In order for a reel to function properly, you must make sure the drive train stays in-line at all times, Daiwa has taken this into consideration with their super strong and rigid, anodized, solid bar aircraft grade aluminum which also is corrosion resistance. The handle on this conventional reel is able to be set in two different positions to fit your liking and has an oversized, super comfortable grip. The spool of this reel comes equipped with a spool clicker, so you are able to hear when a fish is beginning to run with your line, or it you need to tighten the drag.
The drag of this reel contains grease-impregnated graphite and stainless steel washers that allow you to adjust the drag with ease even under the heaviest of loads. There are also machine-cut, high strength alloy gears which are design to stand-up to the tortures of braided line and big game fish. The drive train is designed for ultimate performance with its six ball bearings and one roller bearing, which will make the retrieve as smooth as silk.
