The Daiwa Saltiga SA-15 Conventional Saltwater Reel is designed specifically to withstand the punishments from today's ultra tough braided lines, as well as monofilament. This is truly a great universal saltwater reel.
As any saltwater fisherman knows, although braided line is extremely strong and thin, they put a huge amount of strain on the drags and drive trains in reels. Therefore, Daiwa has made this reel with lots of modifications to withstand anything that it is put through. The frame and side plates are machined of extremely rigid anodized solid bar stock aluminum to assist in preventing corrosion. The spool of this reel is also constructed of precision machined, aircraft grade aluminum which will yield maximum strength and performance. The handle of this reel has two positions and has a massive, hand-fitting grip for added comfort.
The mechanics of this reel are designed to withstand as much strain as the outside. The drag is made of grease-impregnated graphite and stainless steel washers that allow this drag to run properly even under the heaviest loads. There are 6 corrosive resistant ball bearings and one roller bearing which make reeling in those big game fish easy and trouble-free. The gears of this reel are made for performance, they are machine-cut, high strength alloy gears.
