| West Virginia Team Wins King Kat Event In Ohio
....West Virginia team wins with a total weight of 102.85 pounds and earning $2,500.00....
This past Saturday August 13th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Ohio River at the Gallipolis City Park Boat Ramp. In the event over 50 top anglers from different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year's Cabela's King Kat Classic will be held on the Mississippi River at Burlington, Iowa October 27-28-29, 2011.
The event was a great success with anglers bringing in the highest weights in the 3 years the event has been held at Gallipolis. Even the Cabela's Kids Fishing Rodeo was a big success with nearly 40 children attending the fishing rodeo at the famous Bob Evans Farm.
"We would like to thank all the folks at the Bob Evans Farm for being such gracious hosts for our rodeo", said tournament Director Tanner Tabor. "We would also like to thank the Gallia County CVB, and Mr. Bob Hood, also with the CVB. West Virginia DNR was on hand checking fish for tags and gathering other information that will be used to better help them and their conservation efforts", said Tabor.
Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place was the West Columbia, West Virginia team of JC and Randy Albright with a total weight of 102.85 pounds and earning $2,500.00. JC and Randy also captured big fish of the event and received an additional $500.00 for the 37.85 pound catfish. The team was fishing above the Mason bridge in 29 feet of water using skip jack to catch a total of 7 fish for the day. Teams are allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish for the day.
In second place was the Mason, West Virginia team of Todd Anderson and Kelly Harrah with a weight of 94.45 pounds and earning $1,200.00 for the day. Todd and Kelly were fishing up river from Point Pleasant in 30 feet of water using skip jack to catch 5 fish for the day.
Third place went to Steve and Lisa Douglas of Bardstown, Kentucky weighing in 77.95 pounds and earning $500.00. Steve and Lisa were fishing one mile up river from the boat ramp in 40 feet of water using skip jack for bait to catch a total of 5 fish for the day.
Clyde Caldwell of Williamstown, Kentucky and Ronnie Giles of Paris, Kentucky took fourth place with a weight of 65.85 pounds earning $300.00. Clyde and Ronnie were fishing 30 miles upriver from the boat ramp in 25-40 feet of water using skip jack as bait to catch a total of 6 fish for the day.
Fifth place went to James and Janet Fox of McArthur, Ohio with a weight of 61.55 pounds.
