109-Pound Blue Catfish Might be New Virginia Record

A 53-inch catfish caught at the confluence of the Dan and Roanoke rivers in Virginia might be 7 pounds heavier than the previous blue cat that held the Virginia record.

If the weight of 109 pounds stands and is certified by the State Record Fish Committee of Virginia DFG, then Tony Milam and his catfish will be in the record books.

The previous record blue cat was caught in the James River in 2009 and weighed 102 pounds. The two fish are the only two Virginia freshwater fish to officially tip the scales at more than triple digits. This blue cat had a girth of 41 inches.

The world-record blue cat was caught in Missouri, and tipped the scales at more than 130 pounds.

The certification should go through next week, stay tuned and we'll let you know when it's official.
